Wondercon 2013: Jeff Davis Interview
Here is an interview with Jeff Davis, executive producer for the MTV series “Teen Wolf” during WonderCon 2013. Click here to watch it on Youtube or watch the embed below
Get excited, Teen Wolf, fans! The Derek flashback episode you’ve all been asking about sounds to be just as good as you hoped it would be. Jeff Davis explains that he decided to go back in time so that he could show a Derek that was “completely different” and so viewers could see for themselves how Derek came to be the character he is.
“We’re going to learn about Derek’s past and we’re going to see him as a sophomore in high school and learn more about his relationship with Peter, Laura and his mother as well,” he says. “So we’re going to see the Hales at a different time in Beacon Hills. It’s a little darker. It’s going to be a fun flashback episode.”
But it won’t be the whole episode (“about two-thirds,” to be more exact.). Nonetheless, we’ll also learn why some werewolves have blue eyes instead of yellow, AND meet a confrontational Beta named Marco. One thing we won’t see in this ep? The introduction of Derek’s father, and Davis explains that he’s not sure when he’ll pull that card. “One of the reasons [we didn't show him] is because I wanted to be able to present his mother as a very powerful, strong matriarch,” he says. “The two big families in this show are kind of matriarchal. We have the Hales where the most powerful alpha was Talia, Derek’s mother, and we have the Argents, where in their family, the women are the decision makers. They send the men out to be soldiers.”
Still, Davis says, “this season has some of our most dramatic weight yet. So there will be a lot of gravity to these episodes.”
Jasmine: So happy that Sterek won the Top Fantasy TV Couple tournament! Any season-three scoop on them to celebrate?
We can tell you that the first half of Teen Wolf’s upcoming season is a bit light on the Sterek, though they will interact, according to Tyler Hoechlin. “It’s always fun working with Dylan [O'Brien], we have a blast together. It’s been one of my favorite relationships on the show. There’s always going to be that interaction. How much there will be this season? We’ll see!” O’Brien adds that there’s been so little Sterek action so far, “I told Jeff [Davis] I think it would be funny if the next scene he writes between Stiles and Derek, he ends it with us like about to walk away but we look back at each other and say, ‘I miss this!’”
We are getting closer to the season 3 premiere, and with that there are obviously questions still left to be answered. Fans, including myself, are wondering what will happen to Colton’s character Jackson; will he die or what? Colton himself tells TV Line that he doesn’t know.
Question: Is Colton Haynes really gone from Teen Wolf? If so, are they going to recast the part? –Kriselda
Ausiello: Now that Haynes has been upped to a series regular for Arrow Season 2, his days as Jackson are definitley over. And while there was talk that his character would be killed off for the Season 3 premiere (airing June 7), Haynes himself has heard nothing to that effect. “I don’t know, actually,” he tells us. “I’m still really good friends with everybody, and I’m sure that [showrunner] Jeff [Davis] and all the writers, whichever way they go [with Jackson], it will be epic and true to the show. I think that Jackson will always be alive, somehow. Whether they kill him or not, Jeff will find a way where everybody is happy.”

‘Teen Wolf’s’ Daniel Sharman, joins Hallmark’s ‘When Calls the Heart’ film, TV show
Teen Wolf actor Daniel Sharman joins a new Hallmark project called When Calls the Heart, based off of Janette Oke’s novel of the same name.
According to a Hallmark press release, via The Futon Critic, When Calls the Heart will debut first as a two hour film, acting as a pilot for the television show that will follow. The film will premiere on October 5, and the show will begin with 10 episodes in January 2014.
The movie has an all star cast that, aside from Sharman and Amell, also includes Maggie Grace (Taken 2), Jean Smart (Designing Women), Lori Loughlin (90210), and Poppy Drayton. Smart is a three-time Emmy award winner. The film is written and directed by Michael Landon Jr.
This is the second original Hallmark series based off of Oke’s work, the first being Love Comes Softly, which was met with a great deal of success and is one of the reasons why Hallmark was looking into doing another series based off of one of Oke’s novels. Synopsis;
When Calls the Heart is the story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Drayton), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom post in a prairie town in the Western Frontier lead by headstrong coalminer widows Abigail (Loughlin) and Frances (Smart). She is determined to prove to her family that she is brave enough to live on her own, but struggles with her own fears and doubts. When she discovers her late Aunt Elizabeth’s (Grace) secret diary, Elizabeth learns she was a pioneer woman herself, a teacher in the frontier who struggled with prairie life and fell in love with a Royal Canadian Mountie (Amell). Inspired by her aunt’s hopeful words and unfaltering determination, Elizabeth decides to embark on her own adventure, using the diary as her guide and family friend Edward, another Mountie (Sharman), as her support.
Spoiler: Stiles and Scott – Is the bromance still there?
Lynsey: June is too far away! Any Teen Wolf spoilers to make the wait less awful?
When we asked Tyler Posey to tell us what he’s really excited for fans to see, he spills, “There are some really good scenes I have with Dylan that are great and the fighting scenes.” So the bromance is alive and well, folks! Oh, and we can tell you that a Stiles and Scott scene will make you cry. How do we know this? Because Tyler cried while reading the script!
